I've had my E1 for almost 4 years and for the past several months the Detroit roads have been driving me crazy (more than usual, that is). Over most bumps (not just the severe ones) I feel a lot of wiggle at the rear end. I've had my front and rear alignment checked twice and it's fine. Any suggestion as to what might be causing this?

Yeah, it's cold here but it feels like a bent control arm or something. It doesn't feel wiggly one day when it's 20 degrees out and perfectly fine the next day when it's 55.

my control arm just got bent, and my '97 is doing exactly what yours is. go over the smallest bump and it feels like my a$$ end is gliding all over the place.
as for the weather it has been a lot milder than most winters here in chicago.
check for a bent arm. and speaking of bent control arms... anyone have a good, cheap source for replacements?

My a$$ end get's all wiggly over certain roads and conditions, but it turned out to be a broken sway bar bracket. Right rear, not the D clamp, but the actual weld in bracket.
You might want to see if D clamp didn't slide out of the tab. I was at Ford the other day discussing my situation, and one of the techs said he's seen it a few time's where the D clamp has popped out of the tab insert. BTW, the D clamp is the bracket that goes over the bushing.
My two shiny pennies worth,

The toe arm was bent on my `96 for awhile. When the suspension would move the car would gain rear steering (with one tire!). Quite a strange feeling indeed.

The shop that was working on my car bought the part from Ford. fordpartsonline.com or Bill Jenkins would be a good source.
