Hi,
I saw posts about problems w/ upgrading to larger sway bars.

My lx has ~80k miles and my mechanic says that the rear sway bar links need replacement. My question is, if I upgrade to a 19mm bar, will I have any problems (e.g. new links will wear out sooner, etc.)? Thanks.

Thanks for the response. I think I'll go w/ the 19mm bar. I don't want to change the characteristics too much.

A cheaper option may be going to a early SE 19mm bar someone may have laying around or an SVT 18mm, bar people have lying around. Lots of people bought the SCA, BAT, or THM bar. So finding someone shouldn't be too hard if you want to go that route.

Better measure first, as I believe your car came with the 18mm stock. Quite honestly, the 19mm is your best bet unless you want the additional headaches of squeaking, rattles or weld on reinforcement plates at the bracket mounting point. And then the brackets are prone to bending, breakage too. Anything other than a 19mm is not a straight bolt-on mod.

Guess I'll measure it first. I thought early non-SE contours had 16mm rear bars. Thanks.

95-97 SE had 19mm rear
SVT's had 18mm rear
All others had 16mm rear

Depends on high well you want to corner and what you're prepared to do for it. goin from 18mm to 19mm wil only get you a 24% improvement in body roll and cornering ability.

But he would be coming from a 16mm. Then a 19mm would be substancial stiffer.
