Had to take the Tour into the dealer cause it was grinding every time you shifted into third gear. After two weeks they finally fixed it. It told them it was more than likely the third gear Synchro, but they of course didn't believe me. When they finally got around to tearing it down they found that low and behold I was right. Then they ordered the parts and fixed it.

I picked it up the other day and now notice a strange noise coming from under the driver's side dash approximately. Sounds like a wooshing noise whenever you accelerate, getting louder the faster you go, and stopping when you come to a stop. Does anybody have any ideas what they could have screwed up so I can get in and try and fix it myself. Every time I take the car there they either don't fix the problem, or create another one.

I had the same problem when my ATX was replaced.
It was magically fixed, when they had to replace all of the cats.
Ask the dealer to check your exhaust, for any missing GASKETS.
The Exhaust has to be taken apart to get the transmission out through the bottom of the car.

Just wanted to update this. I took the car back to the dealer again, and they found a vacuum line that they forgot to reconnect. What a bunch or idiots.

Did they fix it under warranty? My svt just started doing this sat. night. first thing i thought it could be was the syncro. If i put it in third real slow it's fine. i'll add that to the list of other things to fix. glad i have the extended warranty, had the car three years last month. only 26k miles on it.

Don't get so excited! I took mine in yesterday with a grinding shift from 1st to 2nd under an ExtraCare warranty - all internal transmission parts covered. At the SVT dealer I was told that they were not sure the synchros would be under warranty since it can be worn due to abuse ("too much power shifting"). I had to sign a paragraph saying that if the chief mechanic decided wear was due to abuse, the entire job would have to be paid for by me.

I find this unbelievable! No one should have to worry about the internals of the tranny. I told them that the car should be up to the job - there should really be no such thing as abuse on the tranny - clutch maybe.

Good luck

The car was three in August an I took it in in September so they wouldn't cover it under warrenty. Lucky I had the extended warrenty to cover the repair. Since they "Fixed" it I have had it back in twice now for odd noises that it has been making. They apparently forgot to reconnect a vacuum line the first time. And now the vacuum line that they forgot to reconnect has either come off again or another came off cause its making the same noises as before. Its been two months now that I have not had a decent, drivable car. I'll never get another Ford.

I picked the car up this morning, they said they couldn't hear the noise, and refused to work on it any more. This noise was not hear before I had them fix the transmission. It pings like crazy at highway speeds. Everything that I have read indicates to me that there is probably still a vacuum line either not connected, or not connected properly. I guess at this point I will have to get the Haynes manual out and check each one myself. What fun.
