I have a grinding sound coming from my engine bay. I believe I have actually narrowed it down to the idler pulley. It almost sounds as if the bearings have gone bad.
Its tied to rpms, if the rpms go up the sound increases in frequency as well.
My question is: Is this common? and if I replace the Idler pulley does it come with the bearings? Could it be something attached to the idler pulley. All I really know is thats where the sound is coming from.
Thanks, Justin

Are you talking about the idler pulley or the tensioner pulley? I also have a grinding noise from my idler pully. I bought the pulley, it cost $25 i think, and it does come with bearings already installed. I however haven't installed it yet cause i don't have the time or any wrenches, cause you can't fit a socket wrench to it. Hope i answered your questions.

Talkin about the Idler pulley, it seems to have gotten louder lately.
I know exactly what your talkin about with the socket. Very limited space, I haven't quite figured out how i'm going to get it installed yet.
Where did you purchase yours from? Do you have the part #, just want to make sure I get the right thing. Alot of ppl mistake the two, Idler pulley and Tensioner pulley.
Thanks for the help Justin

Hmm...what I am getting on my 99 svt with 60K is this:
At 2K in gear only I get this cricketing sound that runs until about 2300. I did look at the belt and it does look very crappy, lots of cracks and not the normal wear ones either.
I am not sure if replacing the belt will fix the problem...I should check to see how loose it is.
