Recently I switched my A/C fan from low to mid and the fan stopped, I switched up to high and it operated fine... Now it only works on high speed, the fan doesnt even spin at all in the lower speeds... I am taking it to the dealer on Tuesday for service under factory warranty, but I would like to know possible causes for my own information
Thanks

Think there is/was a recall on the resistor pack that controls fan speed.

Very interested in this outcome - mine has started doing the same thing. I haven't had the time to go and tear the interior up. I figuered it was just due to poor workmanship when installing the heater blower recall connector.

Mine is under warranty, so I will post the fix that they give for your information

bought my SVT with this symptom. It is under recall and even if your VIN doesn't check out on Ford's Recall list, the dealer (with a little arguing) will replace it under the recall. So I was told by a service manager at a Ford Dealership. Hope this helps. smile

Anyone know the recall number for that?

For the past year, my AC would only work on MAX. It was fixed under recall # 01S22. Now it works but I think my idle is rough at stops with the AC on. Mechanic says no. Guess I'll just keep bringing it back...

01S22 is the Heater Blower Connector replacement. It is a Safety Recall, as the connector apparently chaffes and can arc, causing sparks, etc. etc.

I went to www.alldata.com and checked recalls for Contours. Recall # 99M07 and 99M08 look to cover the "only works in High setting" fan problem. One is for Heater Blower resistor and the other is for some resistor connector (not the same one as 01S22 I believe). I'll be calling my dealer to get the car in for one or the other of the 99M programs.

Quick Ford recall code primer: "S" programs are safety recalls and are done to all vehicles upon request (and sometimes they'll do it if the car is in for something else without even asking you).
"M" programs are only performed if the vehicle exhibits symptoms of the problem. A good example is the Dash Warpage recall, another is the Slow Fuel Fill recall. They won't ever do an "M" program unless you ask for it.

On my 1997 Contour there were 4 seperate recalls to replace all of the switch, wiring, and resistor to and from the heater blower. This was a very big problem for Ford.

I have all the symptoms of the recall, but im not under the recall!! actually, my car is in for the dashboard recall and the break pressure thing, and they said they would look and see if the blower motor resistor was my problem, if it is, im gonna buy the parts and fix it myself. However, does anyone know if theres anything i can do to get this fixed by ford without paying (im out of warranty) I think if im having the problems, and I just have a car thats a year newer than the ones under the recall, they should still fix it! Anyways, if theres nothing i can do, its only a $20 fix; but its the principal! lol, thanks for the help!!
