Has anyone noticed as their car is getting older, that the gap between the strut and the tower, inside the engine area has gotten larger. I seem to remember my struts resting firmly on the tower itself, now I seem to have a gap between the strut and the tower.

Can someone check and see if their newer Contour has a gap or not?

Also, when turning the wheel while stationery the struts seem to move noticeably in the tower assembly. Is this big trouble?

I tried searching this in problems and found the leaking oil threads and such, but couldn'f find anything on this subject.

Thanks,

Ed

I have noticed the same thing on my 98 se. I have had the bat suspension package added though. It does seem like it shifts depending on how level the ground the car sits on and how the wheel is cranked. Its worse on the drivers side for me. The right side barely shows it. I have searched with no results also. It would sure be nice if someone had any insight on this laugh

I have the same gap on my towers. It showed up after the BAT kit install. Someone suggested I had a part upside down but I don't see that. If the lower nut is removed then the cap sits right but that is obviously not a good way to take care of it. I am thinking of finding slimmer nuts but I am not sure really what is going on. It does not seem to be affecting anything so I have not been to worried about. Would like to know what is going on though.

Are you guys refering to the upper strut mount? Top or bottom? The bottom 1 resides in the wheel well and is directly above the upper spring perch.

Brad:

I'm talking about the "perch" that rests on the strut tower, as viewed from the engine bay. Not sure what that "part" is called.

Thanks,

Ed

Ive had movement also, as evidenced by wear on the shock (strut?) tower paint right around the rubber bushing.

Not sure I can help out as my car has Koni's on it. I'd make sure nothing is loose though. That particular piece is rubber molded around a steel centre, and I guess it's a cushion of sorts for strut rebound. Probably cheap from Ford and easy to replace.

My '99 SE is exactly the same. I noticed it after I put the Konis's and Eibachs. Turns out my buddy and I didn't get something tight so I took it to a mechanic, He fixed it but the gap was still there so I stopped worrying. Also if I hit a bump with the wheel turned I hear some clunking. I remeber it always doing it though, anyone else?
