First off let me say, sorry about having to replace the engine. frown IIRC, you just bought that car and haven't had it on the road, legally yet, due to the failed smog test right? That's too bad but it's a lesson learned. So, I've had my engine replaced...twice. The first time, they replaced it with an engine that leaked a lot of oil. Beyond repairable..thanks to a friend. So the next time they replaced it, it was fine. I replaced the clutch while it was apart. There are the normal quirks that will need to be worked out...such as misc. CEL lights and or little noises that may bother you. My new engine has been in for ~68K miles now and it's running fine. Good luck in the search for another engine...Hope you get a good price. You may want to check around online. Do a search for used parts or something and I think you will find some websites that you can get some salvage parts. Sorry for the novel. wink Adios! smile

It seems that these engine's going bad is a common thing. That really scares me, do I invest anymore money in my car? I thought engine's were suppose to last a long time. Are most of these owner error's or engine error's? eek

Well, you bring up a good point. There are a lot of us who have had engines replaced. So I would be interested to hear/read whether they are human or engine errors. Mine personally, I am hard on my vehicle on occasion, but got the engine replaced the first time because of some inside help....right before warranty ended type deal. Didn't really need replacing. Now the one that they replaced it with was a piece of junk. Bad rebuild job by Ford. Now, I think I got one of the good ones. And I'm still tough on the car every once in a while. Good questions man! laugh

the best place 2 find a motor is car-parts.com but i personally tghink its wise 2 see the car the motor came out of if its got heavy front end impact it could do internal damage so i'd go local if u can,as long as u don't over rev these motors they r very reliable, besides the long sweeping turns(oil starvation),get it fixed and u'll love tghe car,it is a very good reliable car but like any other car if u r 2 hard on it or don't do proper maintenence sh!t does break

It took a while for my aftermarket insurance to cover it. I had to produce all of my reciepts for any service including oil changes. Which was a problem since I do almost all of my own work. I then had the claims adjuster come there with me personally there and show me what exactly was being covered. They then tried to blame me for the lack of maintainance, which is a crock of s***. Because I was, and still is religious with my maint. I then had to take my claim to what is called arbitration. That's where you ask for a second opinion. Within two weeks I was given an answer and they paid the dealer about $2500. My share; $30, for fluids. I was lucky that at that time I was not in school and that I was able to bike to work. I was able to borrow my parents car, but I am too proud sometimes and maybe stubborn. wink

BTW the engine was given a two year parts and labor warranty and it was considered rebuilt for liability purposes. I was told that Ford does not rebuild the duratec and it was just labeled for their sake.

Duratec oiling systems are marginal. If you like to drive around at 6K+ RPM's, especially during hard cornering expect a blown motor. Mine is a '95 with over 100,000 miles and still have the original timing chain system. When I do my clutch I'll upgrade to the '96 and newer type. I change my oil religiously and use only the best synthetics. I also never run hard until the engine is up to proper operating temperature. And I use the block heater YEAR ROUND!
