When I bought my 98.5 E1 this past June, I replaced the burned out passenger side fog light bulb. Now only 3 months later, it's out again! mad

I checked, and the bulb really is burned out (i.e. not a faulty connection, etc.). The original driver's side bulb is still going strong (I replaced them both at the same time).

Has anyone else had this problem? What is the life expectancy of a fog bulb? 3 months seems AWFULLY short! mad

TIA

are you being careful not to touch the glass on the bulb element?

the oil from your hands will cause premature burnout.

Water, Water, Water in glass housing! Mine leaked like crazy! Take a piece of paper towel and soak in the housing after bulb is out. If it is even damp, then water is most likely your problem.

Any loose or intermittent connection can cause an inductive "kick" in voltage. Any vibration can cause failure of a bulb at its most vunerable time, i.e. right after it's turned off and before it cools. Let us know if you find any of the stuff mentioned.

Wagner is crap. I've had the same Sylvania 885 bulbs in for 18 months now. I use them all the time at night and as DRL's too. Beat that.

Sylvania is the best. Trust me. Always had Sylvania, they've never burned out. As of a few months ago, I was still running on the same 893 that came with the car (switched to 885). Moisture might be the problem. Do you run your fogs for extended periods?

Thanks for all the tips, guys.

Unfortunately, none of your suggestions seem to be the problem. mad

1. I know for certain that I didn't touch the bulb.
2. There's no apparent moisture problem.
3. I pretty much only run them at night.
4. Still checking for loose & shakey connections, though.

Well, I guess I'll just wait and see how long THIS one lasts...

Again, thank you.
