It dosen't look bad at all. The only thing that is noticable is the black strip along the winshield. Everything looks great and I would accept anything less.

mine came apart, they reglued it for 100 dollars, bu the very edge of the dash still is curled up like and touching windsheild... i got my recept and will get reimbursed for the $100 but may ask if they need to do more, but anyways the repair is good till sep 2002 i think, so if i still have car next summer and it does this again i will just have them fix it again.

hey there...new owner here...i see i came in a little late to this discussion, but here's by $0.02 bought my svt 8/10/01; heard about dash problem 8/14/01 from this website and immed. took it into local Ford dealer (not where i bought it)
one day to diagnose problem (i claimed that the dash was peeling near windshield (<1" in some places). less than a week for part to come in ($666.67 but free to me); took 2.5 days to get it back (i think i was the guinea pig); new dash with that black strip molding piece near windshield. i'm taking it back because the installer did not put the HVAC bezel back too securely and there is now a big gap between dash.
Was told by dealer that if it happens again...they'll have to fix it again until time limit runs out.
hope this helps somebody

I'm pretty sure...invoice listed new dash..."new" dash did not have the "armor all" glossed coating that the original had.
maybe my service center was being overly efficient by installing both a new dash & molding piece.
From the two pieces (ie shards) of plastic i found on my floor boards afterward...you may have valid concerns about them ripping off the dash

I hope to settle all the confusion. The recall is for dash replacement or installing the kit. The first thing to do is remove the defroster trim. If the dash padding is more than two inches from the base, then dash is to be replaced. If the padding is less than two inches, then the kit is to be installed. The kit includes metal pieces to hold down the padding around the defroster ducts. Then two rivets are to be installed on both sides of the glove box. Then the instrument cluster trim panel is to be removed and seven rivets installed and the panel put back. There is also a new style defroster trim panel with two clips to be installed.

I forgot about the piece along the front of the dash along the windshield. I was being bothered at the time. I installed a kit just last week. A couple of other technicians have replaced the dash. The recall reads something about the new dashes already having these kits or something about being different, I forget exactly.

Dave are you a Ford tech? When you say 2 inch's what exactly do you mean? 2 inch's in what way? The entire top of my dash all the way to point where it starts to form the gauge cluster is seperated from the glue. You can put your hand on it and press it down about a 1/2 inch. When you remove your hand you can see the dash rise again accomponied with a ripping sound[the sound of the cover pulling from the glue. My dash is also curling up against the windsheild all the way across. My defroster trim pops out on the ends, and I just noticed today that the dashboard is bowing in the middle. It ressembles an airplane wing it ia sunk in the middle and raised on both ends like a V. I just do not beleive that a few clips and some rivets are going to fix this. What do you think?
