TRW made/makes the dash. Somehow, I doubt they are making any more of them, and if they are (to fulfill availability requirements), I doubt they'll "re-engineer" anything.

I hope Ford has discovered that you can only squeeze a supplier so hard before turds start popping out (Firestone, for example).

I picked up a sunshade from AutoZone in town here. I found one that says it fits "Jumbo" sized Ford SUV's. The shade works great. It could be about an inch longer and less wider. With a few minor adjustments, the sunshade fits nicely. All in all I had a very productive weekend with my tour. After the drama with the warping, my back brakes needed immediate attention so I just bought the pads and had the rotors turned for free by a friend. That took an easy 1 hours worth actual labor. I also installed a new Escort radar detector(Playboy magazines #1 pick) in the tour. I got the optional permanant mount wiring. That wire is equiped with a remote mount unit that lights up when a radar signal is detected. Meaning that the radar detector itself can dimmed completely. It works great. It one of the less annoying radar detectors that I have owned. Sorry to yap on here but I love this site and bs'n about cars!!! laugh

My 99SE has the dash problem. I just went to Napa and got some trim adhesive(gorilla snot) and pulled the dash back as far as it would go, then I glued it back. No more probelms yet...

Ford just issued a owner notification program to fix warped dashes for all 99 and 2000 Owners will be receiving letters in the mail with all the details. Your dealer will not have all the parts in stock now so I wouldnt flood him but the letter is comming!

I was Driving my contour the other day and hit a speed bump at "medium" Speed and my defrostor popped out, but then when i got the car home, i noticed too (like many others) that the dash is coming unglued. My car has only done 15K and I always used my sunvisor. Is the defrosotor popping out due to the dash warping?

This is correct, I received my letter, it applies to all cars even out of warranty, but who wants to drop their car off at a Ford Dealership. Not me, not yet.

I don't know about all of you but........ My tour had the same problem @ 25k. It wasn't too long after that that i got a letter in the mail about a recall for it. I called up my dealer and he said that this problem wasn't happening to many people, and that they would order the dash right away. My dealer sucks though. So i expected the long wait but, i'm getting everything fixed for free. Looks like the guy was wrong about this not happening to many people. Just thought i'd let you in on my experience.
