where is this pesky PCV Valve on the 4cyl?

Haynes says "On four-cylinder models, the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve is located at the front of the engine, under the exhaust manifold (at the oil seperator) wtf? i cant find it... where is it!?! wahts ti look like!? the V6 looks like its a bent hose with some plastic thing on it, i see nothing like that on my car.

On the v6 it is tucked under everything but I can't figure out how to get it apart (scared of breaking it) to see how it is. Anyone have a suggestion. The manual really doesn't cover this perhaps because it is most likely a no brainer except for us people without a brain.

Won't Ford change it at 60K for free?

im about 9,000 off.

I am at 110,000. In any event, I wouldn't let a NJ ford service department do anything not related to a recall. Even then, they have a habit of screwing things up.

On the V6, I think you can get to it easier by removing the air duct between the airfilter and the throttle body. It's under the bracket that the throttle cable connects to.

I didn't remove the air duct when I replaced it last time, but I have long skinny fingers and a high pain tolerance

Next time I'll just remove the air duct.

I took my '95 4-cyl in for the cooling fan recall work, and it was close to 60k so I asked them to also change the PCV valve while they had it, since the owners manual implies they will do it for free.

I was told, yeah, they'll do it for free, so long as you are paying them to do the 60,000 mile maintenance service.....

That doesn't really sound free anymore, does it?

So I'll be groping around for mine sometime soon, let you know if I find it.

Hey Contour vct

the pcv valve is in that location.
if you look at an angle through the right side of the exhaust shield you can see it.
there is a tube that runs from the valve to the right of the engine and goes back to the intake ports

On the front face of the block, under the exhaust and above the pan, is an inch thick sheet metal chamber of vaguely trapezoidal outline. Stuck into the right side of that is a tube. I believe the valve is at the base of that tube, where it is jammed into a rubber grommet in the side of the little box.

One more bit to add, ContourVCT:

The Haynes manual has more detail on the PCV system in Chp. 6. Page 6-20, section 8. Also a diagram there which gives an OK idea of where the valve is.

The bad news is, their instructions on removing the valve begin with "Remove the exhaust manifold". Has anybody managed to get the PCV valve out without such drastic measures?
