I am replacing my water pump soon as a precautionary measure (98 SVT/w 65k miles!!).. I have the water pump, but I was thinking about replacing the hoses and belt while I was there.. but there's an issue of the torque-to-yield retaining bolts for the pump... where can I find those.... actually does anyone know where I can get all that at a good price, or should I just call a ford dealer... thanks!!

I already have the pump... I got it for $74.00 at autozone... what I meant by "all that" was the water pump hoses and retaining bolts..

why dont you return the autozone one and buy the ford one.you dont have to worry about it leaking out of that seal.and the impellar is improved.

Doesn't the Ford WP have the plastic impellers? How are they improved? I thought it's better to go with those Autozone metal ones.

I'd keep that Auto Zone pump if I were you, Defiant. The Ford pump is the ENTIRE water pump assembly, and it's gonna be a b-tch to install yourself. The Auto Zone pump (and every other aftermarket WP) is just the face plate that attachs to the housing, and it's a helluva lot easier to put in. Go to your friendly Ford dealer and look at their model to see how cumbersome it is.

Also, you (probably) won't need to replace any hoses, but I would spend $5-10 and replacing the single belt. Mine was beginning to crack when I replaced my first WP at 98k miles.

Kenny,

Could you give us the FORD Part Number for the IMPROVED Ford Water Pump for the Duratec V6 ??
I spoke to my Service Manger at Ford, and he is willing to do the pump for me. All he needs is the part number for the pump that you say has the improved impeller.
I gave him the address of this site, and told him that he should check it out. There is a lot of information here that can be a good use to a dealership, plus there are over 4000 members here worldwide.

Thanks in advance !!! wink
