99M08 is the program number that covered this problem on my '98 in Jan. of this year. It should cover the '99s as well.

It takes about 10 min of your time & about 10 bucks to take care of the problem yourself by replacing the fan-speed resistor pack. The unit usually cracks (why?) confused & breaks internal connections.

Is the smoke alarm in your house also known as the "dinner bell"?

The AC on my 98 SVT would only blow on high, then I received a letter in the mail saying it's recalled then I brought it to Ford and done. In fact the actual letter states " Ford is providing an additional coverage program number 99M07 to owners of certain 1995 through 1998 Model Year Ford Contour and Mercury Mystique vehicles" further down the letter " Ford Motor Company is providing additonal coverage on the heater blower switch, resistor and attached wire connectors" and that was straight from the letter. So if you have a 99 then I don't know if it's covered.

Thanks again, everybody. I'll try the dealer again, although another trip to the dealer is always another chance for a f**k up. $10 for the resistor pack sounds good to me to avoid the dealer! If it's the switch/fuse/relay, that's a different story.
