My moonroof does not work without a helping hand from myself. I took it apart and I know what the problem is. It's a gear that is striped and I tried the fix but it just didn't want to work right. Does anybody know where or have a site where I might be able to buy this gear besides the at the ford dealership?

I am attempting to produce a gear made of brass that would be harder to strip. If you want a cheap replacement for the motor with the old plastic gear, go to
http://car-parts.com/

There is a place that has "new" moonroof motors with good gears for $50.

Just had the same problem with my tour. Dealer wanted $270 for replacement unit!!! Searched the salvage sites on the web and found one at Saved Auto Parts in Greenbay, WI. No web site, but toll free @ 888-371-3050. Cost $50 + shipping. Total delivered to Tulsa was $60. Just installed today and works great.

No, that's for the whole motor/gearbox unit. that's apparently the only way they come. Even the dealer doesn't sell the individual gears. I'm not sure, but the unit I got looked brand new. So it may be stock overrun or something. Whatever it's better than $270! :p

That's good because I kind of screwed up the black plastic cover piece anyway.
