The battery light on my 98 1/2 svt has been turning on when the tac goes above 4500, had the alt tested, belts changed and still it comes on. Now its turining on aboce 3500 does any body know what it could be?

Sounds to me like a bad alternator or voltage regulator. Do your lights dim? I had the same problem in my Cougar and it turned out to be the voltage regulator.

well the alternator was checked and it was still giving the right juice when revved the lights dim very slightly so maybe its the regulator, how much would a replacement be?

I'm having the exact same problem with my 99 contour. While driving at night, when the batterry light goes on, the headlights brighten as well as the speedometers (a surge of power) I haven't fixed mine yet... let me know what the diagnosis is...
