Wow, How lame that Ford didn't fix that problem in the later models. I had the problem corrected under warranty on my 95 GL 2.0L in 1997...

I kinda have that prob. When I go to get gas I have to play with the nozzle and move it at different angles to get it to take the gas in.

Just had this happen to me the last two days. Really freaked me out, first thought I just picked a bad gas pump at the station, but I got pretty worried when it happened again tonight when I went to fill it up the rest of the way.

Came home and did a search here and found this right away. Thanks CEG! laugh

Unfortunately it is too hot during the summer in missouri to deal with 'oops I can't fill my gas tank now' bs. So now I'll be dealing with a @#$%#ing ford dealer, what are the chances of them actually getting it right on the first try even if I can give them the specific tsb number? I wouldn't put money on it. mad

I have this problem and I have had it in the Ford Dealership twice now and apparently they can't fix the damn problem!

My Fuel Gauge also reads very inaccuratly! One seconde I'll have a half of a tank and the next second it will be below E and the fuel light will be on. Is this related or is it just the fuel sender going bad? What do I need to do if so?

Thanks in advance...and I guess I'll be going in for a third time to try and get it fixed!

Could there be something causing back pressure?
Hey, I live in Alexandria and I have the same problem. I think the regulations on emissions here is part of it...the pumps all have those fume stopper thingys on them and some tend to be really sensitive to back pressure. I deal with it by not quite fully inserting the nozzle (sort of dangerous on its own, I know), not using the auto-fill lever, and just being patient. frown

I used to have the problem on my 95, I learned how to hold the pump a certain way and it would work like a charm...unfortunatley, the NJ gas station attendants were dumb, and would have a fit if i tried to pump it myself!

I have had the same problem on my 99 SVT. Only on really hot days. Unexplainable. It only happens with some pumps though.

Yes this is a common annoyance.

Here is a tip:
When inserting the nozzle, be sure not to insert with full force and don't press it up against the gas tank. I always thought it was a good idea to press it up to create a "seal" with the rubber surround of the nozzle...instead just insert it like 4/5 of the way inside...pretty much all the way but not completely... (make sure it IS inside tho! laugh ) and its should be MUCH easier to fill your tank up.

Before the TSB was issued I carried a piece of 3/16" nylon tubing 55" long. When it would act up I'd slide that the fill until it met with resistance. Then I'd jab it back & forth and loosen the Flapper. One day I didn't have it in the trunk, however I had an antenna element Stainless steel well in my rage I do believe I broke the flapper off. Been 2 years NO problems!!!!!
Beside the little flapper the size of a quarter, well it looks like a prize in a box of Cracker Jacks.
