I'm driving a 95 GL V6 right now with no mods at all. My car gets good acceleration and I am quite pleased, but still, it could be better. What are some basic and inexpensive mods that could get me in the 200+ neighborhood?

ok i have a 95 mtx contour se and i plan on doing an intake, i just got an svt exhaust, new cat (free flow), bigger fuel injectors 19LBS, Bigger throttle body not sure yet if i should do 73mm or 60mm, upper and lower svt intake manifold, and after that get a custom chip for the mods. It all depends on how much ur willing to spend. Some basics mods are intake, exhasut, and chip? whats ur budget like?>

Without spending an arm and a leg, it is damn near impossible to get 200 hp out of these cars... sorry.

Okay, I'm an idiot. I'll admit it. No need for further responses on this post. Thanks.

Open element intake, SVT UIM, SVT LIM, SVT TB, catback system, optimized Y-pipe, punch precats, straight pipe on main cat section, etc... That should be less than $2k, strip the interior it'll give you some extra push. You might even have extra cash to spend in an APEXi S-AFC. You should be at or over 200bhp consider that's basically what the SVT has. All you're short of is the extrude honed heads, higher compression, cams, and little more aggressive computer; but you'll probably make it up with the optimized Y-pipe, punched precats, hi-flow main cat, catback, and the APEXi S-AFC.

be serious it wouldn't be that hard to get 36hp for $2000.port and polish the intake, larger trottle bodies, chip it,free flow exhaust,CAI,unorthodox pulleys, adjustable cam gears, etc.that would put you within grabbing distance of 200hp, or you could save for the turbo laugh :p

Umm..it's not that hard to get 200 FLYWHEEL hp on a regular Duratec. I'm close to 200 with 160 AT THE WHEELS which works out to about 190 at the flywheel. And I've still got more room to grow. laugh

Intake ($100), SVT throttle body kit ($250), SVT upper intake manifold($300), gutted exhaust manifolds ($25 and 6 hours of my time), SHOShop y-pipe with cat ($210), SVT exhaust w/new resonator. ($50 for the res and install- exhaust was free from another member) ASP underdrive pully ($120) and some labor to optimize everything.
Total: $1050 or so. Figure around $1100 total with shop supplies.

Still to come is a chip/EEC tuner, Yo-Dude exhaust to replace the SVT one, and port work to the extra lower intake manifold that I have ($100) that should put me over 200hp at the flywheel easily. With some careful planning and by following the work of others you can do it. Don't be discouraged!! smile

200hp at the wheels or the flywheel? Do you have an ATX? I do and it saps a lot of power, I can only dream of 200hp at the wheels without serious mods (turbo, blown 3L etc)
