Behind the lower front grill...at the outer corners...just to the inside of the fogs...there is this 6"x4" black plastic piece.

Anyone know what that is there for and if it can be removed without consequences?

It's there to direct air from the edges of the bumper opening towards the center of the car and through the radiator. Mine have been removed for the longest time due to my custom grills (I make 'em) and no ill consequences have arrised.
