I thought of that too. When I went to the muffler shop to get the resonator removed, I had them install a plain regular pipe first. I liked the sound and it wasn't too loud, so I didn't worry with a hi-flow resonator or glasspack. Droning usually describes a constant booming or buzzing exhaust sound that eminates throughout the cabin. If it's bad enough, it'll give you a headache on long trips.

I had the same experience as 8az28 when I had my resonator removed from my stock exhaust. When I changed to bigger pipes, I learned all about drone frown and put a resonator back in. I think the Magnaflow sounds refined and is pretty reasonable $s for aluminized.

I installed an SVT exhaust on my 95 SE with no resonator. At constant RPM (cruising), it tends to just hum and rumble. To some it can be annoying.

Word around these forums is that if you have a non-svt duratec you can remove the resonator without "droning" It is the SVT that seems to drone without the resonator. I will let you know,I am having my resonator taken out of my V-6 SE today

Don't know where you heard this. There is no difference in exhaust sound between the SVT duratec and the regular Duratec. Both will drone as bad as each other without resontors.

I didn't start getting droning until I opened up the exhaust a little more.

No resonator on stock exhaust is fine, no drone.

Replace the y-pipe and the drone/rasp rears its ugly head.

Do the Mystery mod, even more drone/rasp.

So I reinstalled the resonator, with an aftermarket one.

He is correct Stazi. Their IS a difference in sound between the two. The reg. Duratec has a deeper sound.

You think so? confused
To me they sound the same. I heard a Cougar yesterday and it sounded no different to an SVT.

I know they sound different. Due to the fact that SVT's have higher compression and hotter cams. You have to really pay attention but they are deeper. Resless SVT's drone more than reg. Duratecs as well.
