Why not 17?
1) initial cost
2) sustainment cost (I plan to burn through tires. Autocross.)
3) 16 is about as big as you go without looking goofy at stock ride height. I'm still not sure when or if I'll drop it.
4) Then there's that old balancing act between all the different performance factors that wheels and tires influence. Grip vs steering response vs acceleration vs unsprung weight vs ....Anyway, I ran the numbers and IMO this is the best setup for me.
