No, of course it shouldn't. But my real question is that I heard about people removing the padded-matt from the hood to decrease amount of engine heat. Can someone tell me if this a good idea and if it makes a significant difference or if it has any disadvantages? Thanks.

On a personal note, did you know that if you keep giving kittens food, they'll just keep eating it? Its kind of fun to watch.

I removed the mat that under my hood and I experienced less heat soak issues with my open element air filter. I believe that someone has documented the reduced intake air temperature without the hood blanket. Do a search for more info.

The only other thing that I noticed was an increase in engine noise without the mat.

Another two cents worth from me. wink

I think without the mat to insulate, the engine bay will disperse the heat better. I also heard that the heat can discolor your hood after a while.

It may discolor it...but let's face it, it's the bottom of your hood. You don't drive with it up. (At least I hope you don't)

I pulled mine off and did notice it running a little cooler, but I changed my intake pipe and have since changed the waterpump and thermostat, so it could be any of the things mentioned.

I meant it might discolor the paint on top of the hood as well as the inside. I suppose it would take a LONG time, but I imagine it could happen. The one other thing I always worried about was the hood making contact with the battery terminals. Then again I have an aftermarket battery.

Is this my 0.03? laugh

1999 and 2000 was decontented. Mostly noise abatement.

Hood shouldn't discolor from heat.

Most "low end" cars don't have it.
