I have called a dozen audio/security shops in town today and not ONE said they can bypass the PATS in the SVT computer I have!! mad
They all say that I would have to go to Ford and by the transponder, buy and get a key programmed etc etc. So I guess I'm stuck with using my stock SE PCM then! arghhh.
Anyone have any ideas??????

Get the new PCM reprograming stuff and upload the SVT Timing and Fuel map to your old PCM?

What is the code on the computer? If it is 97BB-xxxxxx-xx then you MIGHT have a chance that the PATS systems are the same. If it says 98BB-xxxxxx-xx then you have to get a different PATS transponder (black ring around the ignition cyl). The PCM's made before late January 98 have a type "A" PATS system. This have an external PATS module that works in conjunction with the PCM. The ones made after January98 have a type "E" PATS system. This type has the entire PATS system inside the PCM.

If you have a 97BB-xxx... computer, you need to make sure the PATS light only flashes fast for a few minutes. If it flashes fast for a while, then starts to flash a code at you (1-6 maybe) then you will need to "obtain" additional parts to make it work.

If it ONLY flashes fast for a few minutes and does not throw a code, then all you have to do is take it to the Fr0d dealer and have them put the computer in learn mode. Make sure you bring ALL your keys, too. It takes about 10 minutes if you get a tech that is worthwhile.

Yes, there are MANY people not trying to steal cars for a living that are frustrated with PATS. I, for one, am. wink

If someone PM's the Cardoc on FCO in one of his posts has bypassed the PATS sys. He just might tell you how to do it. Not sure though.

The transponder is in the head of the key. The transponder is activated by the PATS system since there is no energy source in the transponder itself.

One method of defeating the PATS system used by some alarm companies is to remove the transponder from the key and mount it near the ignition tumblers. One such method is to remove the cover around the steering column that also covers the turn signal and wiper switches and tape it up with duct tape. You then must use a key that does not have a transponder, because having two too close together could confuse the PATS system.
