I have driven quite a few Saabs and a few 8 series BMWs. For the money, there are much better alternatives to a Saab, but if you are getting to do the deal where you fly to Germany, watch the cars in the factory being made, drive for a few thousand miles, and get a huge discount on the car; then it might be worth it. I can't say much for the design of the car, but I hear they last forever.
The BMW 8 series didn't impress me. I am impressed that I saw an 840i (95? model) for sale for something like $25k. Decent miles and condition. If you think sports cars should weigh as much as SUVs, then that car is for you.
Have fun in Germany and drink responsibly (translation: not before/while you are driving the autobahn.)
