What's a good brand of octane booster? Are they all the same? Just need it for a tank of gas for a day at the track. So even if it's a little more its not a problem.
Thanks, Jason

I personally like NOS brand ocatne booster the best. But if you have the choice, buy high octane gas instead.

If you are driving at a 'real' race track, chances are there will one gas station nearby that has very high octane racing gas....way higher than the 92 stuff you suffer thru...we have 94 here in Canada....ask someone at the track. and good luck on the track

we suffer through 91 out here as of late. I don't know if that's just Cali or all the states. And I don't wanna take the risk that there might not be high-octane gas at the station.

Lucky for us in Portland, there's an Astro gas station about a mile away from the track that sells 95, 101, and 110 octane gas.

Cheapest and best: Go to a paint supply store and buy a gallon can of Toluene or Xylene, tip that stuff in and then fill up with Premium. Trust me it works. I used to use that stuff on my Turbo Eclipse. It allowed me to run 20psi on stock internals with NO detonation. The can shoulkd cost anywhere between $7-$10 and you'll end up with a RON# of around 98-100 A can of "Octane booster" will maybe get you to 94! and costs the same!

A can of "Octane booster" will maybe get you to 94! and costs the same!Agreed. The cans of Octane Boost promise to raise your octane by xx "points" - they mean tenths of a RON. Not worth the $$$ IMO. Buy some Xylene or Toluene. I've used it and it works with no bad effects. It's what the refineries use to make the different grades of octane (among other ingredients). My local Home Depot stopped carrying Xylene but Lowe's still has it. Read my big post in this thread for the exact math. IIRC, it takes me 2.5 gallons in a tank of 93 to get a RON of 98 (which is quite high anyway). If you can follow the algebra you can determine exactly what octane you will end up with.

Our local drag strip sells 100+ octance gas. I know someone that runs something that's $5 a gallon, dunno if it's the same time. He aslo has NOS, it's one of those big 70's Nova.

The 100-102 octane at the track here is $5/gal $1.45 per gal for 4 gal (~92 octane) = $6 + $5 per gal for 10 gal (100-102 octane) = 14 gal for $56 (Mixed with the couple gallons in the tank = ~98-99 octane) $1.45 per gal for 11 gal (~92 octane) = $16 + $24 Xylene (3 gal) = 14 gal for $40 (equals ~98-99 octane) You can make more for less yourself.

I heard using Race Fuel at the track might not be the best to use on a daily driven car. Anyone else know? I use the NOS Octane about every other month or so.
