Ram Air on a FWD car is always a challenge. I'm not sure if anyone has done a "real" ram air setup successfully or not on this site, but there has certainly been a lot of debate over the topic. I personally think it could be done, but the costs involved may warrant another solution (like a standard cold air intake). If cost is not a factor, and cutting your hood open isn't either, then I say go for it. You'll have to do some/most of the engineering yourself, though. Anyway, good luck, and if you have more questions, feel free to ask us.

i'd think that would just help the filter breathe cooler air elky, the ram effect of a hole in your qtr panel cant be that great, i'll bet the air going over that hole is turbulant as hell... not saying that it doesnt have a positive effect, just wouldnt call it ram air.... more like CAI with a sawzall smile

I saw pics of that over on FCO, guy put a naca style (i think that's what they're called?) duct on his fender with a screen, which fed cold air to his intake. Not ram air, but a decent idea ta least, looked interesting

Ram air is a pipe dream. The speed, intake shape, and scoup required are not feasible on a street car.

Your best bet is making a cold air supply for a filter box or partially enclosed filter area.

This can be done by a scoop or funnel in the lower air dam area and a hose to supply the cooler air to the filter area.

That's my 'tour with the cold air induction. It's not true 'ram' air . . . but it is direct, sealed cold air induction.

I don't have stats because I never did a baseline before we cut the fender. My butt dyno tells me it did help, and the sound that comes out of it is awesome.

The shape was chosen because that's the shape of the hole in the SVT inner fender and by staying with that I could retain the plastic filter-to-inner-fender piece to seal the system.

I've got almost 2 years of year-round driving, and can say that it poses no problems in rain, snow, or whatever. Haven't sucked in any birds yet, either wink

If anyone's interested, we can do these fenders out of the shop where we did mine.

I have a Quasi ram air setup on my car. I have a hood scoop with a Hole in the hood to force air into the engine bay. I did it to get cold air into the engine bay, but I'm sure it has a positive effect on power too.
