I was checking out the favorite features/not fav features and i saw a lot of complaints about the back seat not folding down far enough and I propose a solution.
The focus seat fold flat beause the bottom cushion folds forward so the sweatback can lie flat. We can do the same thing i would think. the seat just dont have room to lie flat on those so let's tip um focus style.
So all we need to do is mod the seat alittle by the buckles. so it can can move freey and not piss you off ever time it takes you 10 mins to fold the seat down. i am sure a decent upolstery shop could sew um up good like the foci.
then all we need to do next is instal a hinge drill it and mount it to the floor pan. then bang lie flat seats.
shall i be the guinna pig?
ok ok i will let you know very soon

Kudos to you and best of luck. Maybe it's cause it's 1:20 am, but I don't quite see how you plan on doing this. How do you plan to get past those metal loops that hold down the front edge? getting rid of them completely? As for me, I'm about halfway through swapping a cougar rear seat into my car, looks pretty cool, and is quite comfy to boot. Yes I know no one asked. Anyway, I again wish you best of luck and I'll shut up now.

I have to say that my Toyota does that and it makes a world of difference. If anyone can figure this out I'd be up for it.

looks like this wont work unless:
you are 4 ft tall and like the to sit on the dash.
or you want to cut off your legs and get hand controls.
there isnt enough room to do it by having the seat fold like the focus we will actually loose room. they wont go down far enough. looks like the way it is is the best ford could come up with.
sorry

Exactly. When you take out the bench and fold the seatbacks down you'll see that they come right against the front seats. No room for flip-up bench there!
As well, I'm sure Focus owners don't have to fish their rear seatbelt buckles through tight holes every time they move the thing. Needless to say it would be very dangerous to relocate those..

It is different in that it is a "quasi-bucket" (i think that's what they call it) seat. it's not a bench like we have, there's no middle seat spot. When I get closer to being completly done, i'll take some pics if ppl are interested. there are some isues though, it is NOT direct fit replacement. seat belts don't line up with the opening (trying to figure out what to do about that one), seat bottom is a little narrower, and middle bracket for the folding seat backs is a bit different and the mounting holes don't line up. also, the seat back latches are in different locations. So, i have some bugs to work out, but hopefully by summers end, i'll be done.
