We have a VERY inefficient condesor that is said to zap as much as 20-30 Hp when used. I believe there is a WOT bypass but it doesn't too much cause the condensor deosn't shut down fast enough to respond to someone ripping through the gears. I use the air on the highway otherwise its 2-60 for me!

I hear your sorrows! I dread turning on the AC because it REALLY puts a burden on the power, especially at this altitude. I've never had a car which had such a big difference with it on and off as my SVT does. Oh well, good thing it's only been in the upper 90's lately. :p

Yeah, we don't really have that heat problem down here.
My 99 Civic Si had really weak a/c. It would make it less powerful by far, and it didn't use freon...it used some other tree-hugger crap that took 20 minutes to reach maximum cool temperature.
So it robbed horsepower and took forever to get working...at least the CSVT blows cold

Check into the fill of the system- I've heard that if your 'freon' is low or high, it makes the compressor work harder (sap more power).

I sort of had the impression that A/C did not zap too much. Have mine on all summer practically and never really notice it much, still plenty of GO. It does drop gas mileage by 1-2 MPG though..

You should notice (on the SVT's at least) that at 6K, with the A/C on, the power comes back. I should stop blowing cold till you come out of your run and don't go above 6K for a second. At least that's what happens on mine. It does suck power down low and take a tic longer to rev it up. Just don't do "crazy" stuff with it on. You have the back up 5-60 A/C.

Odd to note as well that between both my cars the V6 has a greater powerloss with the AC on as compared to the ztec.
