Bummer . The car I had before the Merc was a Prizm that I added alot of mods like cold air induction custom exhaust and stiff suspention, nice car. But anyway the water pump was leaking so I replaced it then 2 weeks later that one dropped all the bearings, and took the engine with it. ....Brad

What kind of replacement are you getting? I think you should start a GB on this!

Thanks, I think I may need one someday. I think the previous owner abused this 'tour a little.

was the metal cone still in tact on the backside of the water pump housing? make sure you check that. just putting another pump in will only temporarily solve the problem if that metal cone has come loose. the ford oe pump gives you the whole assembly, including the backside housing with a newly pressed in plate, and a whitish colored impeller. ill be doing mine come spring.

It was still intact on mine. When JVT's pump wore out, That was the cause. After a few attempts to get that cone thing to stay put, we just decided to take it out and see if it would overheat. So far so good. Have to wait until summer to see if it still works OK without it.

Without the 'cone' you no longer have a pump but just a paddle!,this will not circulate the coolant correctly.I suggest you get the rear housing so the pump is complete. The clearence between the impeller and the cone is a critical factor in any centrifical pump, the size of the hole in the cone affect the suction and flow rate...I suggest you study how a centrifical pump works!
