This may seem like 'damning with faint praise', but I really love the feel/look of the steering wheel on those badboys!
97' 2.5L Contour SE -T-Red Midas exhaust (grr...), Sony CD player, K&N airfilter, Mobil One Synthetic Oil, removed intake resonator, modified MAF, in-fender CAI, painted grill, Platinum tipped NGK's. I found a dyno chart. Not of my car, but a 5-speed.

I totally agree about the road noise in the CSVT. I've added MAJOR sound insulation and swapped KDW tires for KDWS. The difference is night and day. I have heard car magazines complain about road noise on the IS300 too. ???
That said, our top gear is simply too short for long highway stretches in my opinion. 3k rpm @ 70 mph? Bleech.
Can you tell me how many revs the IS300 is making @ 70mph? When I heard it was a 5spd instead of 6, that bummed me out.
It's still a possibility for my next car. I'm tired of squeaks, creaks, rattles, knocks. But it can't be louder than my current setup, no way I'm gonna spend a couple weeks dynamatting a Lexus.

Brian,
There is some tire noise in the IS with the 17" Potenzas, but not as loud as the SVT's KDW's. all the articles I read said the same thing, loud tires. I think it's compared to other Lexis and the competition (3 series, A4) There is no wind noise, however. I'll have to check engine speed @ 70mph, but for some reason I remember 3000rpm is about 66mph. 2nd and 3rd gears are taller than the SVT, but 5th is shorter. What it is nice for is 75+ mph acceleration w/o downshifting. But I'm sure with another cog it would get 2-3 more mpg.

Congrats on your IS300! How much was the purchase price for it. I will be picking up my 330i next week sometime and I got pretty much the same options (same color too) as you and I paid 37 for mine. I got the premium package, sports package, cd changer, bi-xenon lights. The premium package gives me the moon roof and leather so we got pretty much the same thing. I will post pics when I pick up my car. I would have gotten the IS300 if I was stateside. I loved it when I test drove it a few months back.
