V6 = Duratec
I4 = Zetec

You have the Zetec engine in your car. That is how it is commonly referred to here. Check the Zetec forums for lots of info about mods, maintenance, specs and other memebers rides. The Zetec engine has actually been around since the mid 80's if I remember correctly and has quite a history over in europe.

Specs for the year you have are something like;
130 HP
135 TQ

Because you have the later car(98+)it is equipped with VCT which is Variable Cam Timing and is located on the exhaust cam only.

And yes, this is a great engine. Very reliable and has very few problems from factory.

BTW, Welcome to the CEG, Enjoy your stay laugh

2.0L = volume air the engine displaces from the top of the stroke to the bottom, x the number of cylinders or pistons, in your case 4.

Dual Overhead Camshaft means the valves that let air (and fuel) into and out of each cylinder are controlled by a camshaft rod above the cylinders, in the head(s). Each bank of cylinders had two camshafts (dual).

The Zetec (Ford's name for it) is a very good engine, but most people think it's a little small for the Contour. As mentioned, check out the Zetec forums for detailed information.

OK thanks for the info, its nice to see there are some people out there who are willing to help.
ONE MORE QUESTION When I was talking to the service dept, he said something like NO YOU DONT HAVE A VTEC it would say that on the engine?
He said you have a VCT. But what you just said makes sense to me, so let me get this right, I have a 2.0L Vtec ATX VCT DOHC?
Let me know and if I am wrong let me know that too. Thanks everyone-Sunny

You have ZETEC. V-Tec is in a Honda. VCT is variable cam timing. It's only used for emissions IIRC.

Here's what you have:

Engine: Zetec (which has DOHC and VCT, 4-cyl)
Transmission: CD4E (which is an automatic "ATX")
