Wouldn't touch an ATX. Most of the fun is red lining it at 8000. Powerband peak is at 7300 (max torqe at 4300). Also yours is bound to have air con, which is another power grabber (we value heaters more in Sunny Britain ) Biggest problem would be you would need 95Ron gas as minimum to run it and 98Ron is a lot better. Its funny, in England where we have dense traffic and lots of stop starts we go for MTX whereas in the US where you cruise in second all day (3rd is for over 70mph) you fit ATX. Also mine likes to cruise at 140mph on the Autobahn's which would get me in serious trouble your side of the pond. Get some decent gas in yours and get the work done on the engine and you will have an SVT killer as its a lot lighter. ------------------ Mad Mole Visit http://www.btinternet.com/~madmole

I want to rebuild the motor....the only problem is it is our only car. I can't afford to be without a car for that long. If you could give me some hints I would appreciate it.

Main ENgine re-build was a month off the road. 2 weeks of that were waiting for Piper to build a custom set of cams, so you could do it in 2 weeks easily.
Most of the mods were a few hours at the weekend
Do the brakes first as these make you faster and safer (only if you race with corners)
Next get a better air filter and a decent exhaust system
The Ecotek valve is a simple mod that works
But unfortunately it is the internal engine mods that give you the big hit
Dont get a superchip. It works on a standard engine but doesn't get the most from a tweaked one. its just an average setting for most Contours, but it does work well for normal cars and is quick and chip. A custom chip takes a lot more work to get going well, but can deliver a lot

"The Ecotek valve is a simple mod that works" What is this? What does it do? How much is it?

Have a look on my site, I have a link top Ecoteks site on the links page.
Basically it sets up interferenc patterns in the Manifold and atomises the fuel better and leans the mix a little. Seems to work well
I've just done a new web page on it which will be going up this weekend when my site gets a major revision

"faster than a heavy V6" Well yes and no.
The aluminum V6 is not why the car is heavier. Its 370 lbs vs 340 lbs for the iron zetec. Its the other HD stuff - bigger radiator, clutch, brakes, wheels, tires, etc. + the standard luxury items - sunroof, CD player, power seats, window, locks etc. that add up to extra weight.
If you get your Zetec up to 200 HP you will probably want/need all the HD stuff on the SVT or similar upgrades. And if you also checked off the luxury options - guess what? You'll weigh the same, minus 30 lbs (engine difference).
