Hey Knu . . . you race at Thompson? Me too. We must keep missing each other 'cause I'm the only 'tour there when I go. I only live about 20 min away. Maybe you can answer me this:

I can't leave hard at all. If I do, I get insane wheel hop. So I end up shoeing it out soft 'til I can hit 2nd-- then it's cojones to the wall. But I'm losing a ton at the line.

You do the 1/4, so has Dom . . . is that simply a "feature" of the SVT? I'm running Michelin Pilots, and though I realize it's a totally different car, my 95 M3 hooked like mad on 'em. So I don't know if it's the 'tour, the tires, the track, or the driver wink

Thoughts anyone?

I go out to Thompson once and while, Sunday was empty (Ford vs Chevy day though) I got in 11 runs and another in my brother's 61 Falcon (ran a 13.7 in it laugh ) I launch at 3000 rpm, basically what I do is get staged first rev and hold at 3000 ( I may try higher soon) once I see the last yellow on the tree I go (yeilded me 2 .499 frown a .502 and a .512 lights eek ) I hen ease of the clutch and give more gas at the same time. My 60ft times were usually 2.27, best was 2.26 (first run of the day at 10AM) I got a few 15.6's out of the car after it cooled down. I have 17" Yokohama A520 tires.

What kind of 60ft times are you getting? I use to have the wheel hop to, you just have to feather it till it gets rollin. Also where do you shift at, I tried redline and i did worse then if I just shifted at 6500

Dood, if you're leavin' at 3000, then I need new tires.

I have to leave at 2000 MAX to keep 'em from spinnin' so bad the hop and I have to let out of it. If you can leave at 3000 and shoe it, then the first thing I wanna know is what you're runnin' for tires and suspension. I'm stock except for the Michelin Pilots.

I'm tellin' ya, they just SPIN . . .

I leave at 3grand, tires at Yokohama a520's (check sig) If you dump the clutch it will cause wheel spin, slowly letting up and applying gas, the car will pull nicely. Now on the street, I spin at 3000rpm so dont practice it there, go to the track early and get a ton of runs ( 11 runs was fun as hell) hold the three grand you see last yellow start letting up and applin gas, viola a good 60ft. We'll have to meet up there one Sunday. Currently my 1/0 times are slow, check the link for more on my story, also what times are you running there?

My SVT is a 98 Black: I herd that they usually will put the newer engine in. That would be the higher output one. RIGHT? Needless to say my car was never drag raced or anything.

34000k

One thing you need to be sure: Keep all your records. The first thing they did was call and tell me to bring in my oil change records so they could continue. Lucky I had everyone from 3000k on. Now they say that a specialist from for is coming to look at the engine.

Doesn't SVT have a survey or questioner on engine failures???

CJ- The one you probably oughtta hit up for that kind of info is CARDOC (Dom). He's out of town right now but will probably know. One of the things I HAVEN'T heard about the SVT is lower end engine failure on a stock non-raced car.

KNU- I've been doin' the 1/4 mile thing for years (in fact, I have a Holman and Moody prepped Mustang). My 'tour is the first hi-po front wheel drive that I've taken on the track. It's not that I want to beat on it weekly, but I would like to get numbers as I make my mods. It's just tough gettin' consistent numbers when you can't hook.

The only performance mod I have so far is the KKM and cold air through the fender. With that, shoeing it in first (and spinning but no hop) I pulled a 16 flat. 60-foot stank 'cause they were spinning. It would appear that in the trim she's currently in, my 'tour just as too little grip for the power. smile

When ya goin' to the track next?

Car has been in the shop ten days and they still haven't even touched it. Guess it is going to be awhile.

I'm still wondering if anyone knows if they will put a 98 engine in or a newer one. What differences would I look for to tell the difference????
