I get my oil changed at the dealership. I've read that the dipsticks are slightly off and would like to add more oil. Question is, what kind of oil (brand) should I be adding? I see on the dealer receipt that they use 5w30, but doesn't say what brand or anything. Does it matter? Thanks!

Assuming you have a 6cyl. You should be running at 6 quarts of oil, to prevent the disaterous oil starvation problem that we are so prone to. As to brand, that can vary from person to person, I dont know anything about oil brands, so I wouldnt try and tell you which brand to use. -Nick

Most Ford dealers use Ford's own brand, Motorcraft. You should ask them to make sure. They should be able to tell you.

Would it hurt to add a little Penzoil or Quaker State to get to the appropriate level? Or do I have to add whatever brand Ford uses? Thanks for the response guys!

see sig for oil. i dont think it would hurt to add a little oil from another brand as long as its the same weight and type (dont add synthetic to motorcraft dyno oil). does this sound right to anyone else?
...and yes, I did SEARCH first before asking.

5W30 is 5W30. You can add any two same weight oils together and they are chemically similar enough to be basically the same as far as the engine is concerned. You can put synthetic in too. As a matter of fact they even sell it already mixed up and call it synthetic "blend". Maybe a little better properties than pure dyno, but who knows??? Doesn't say how much is synth and how much is dyno, so probably not worth the extra $s.
