I just got back yesterday from my little drive from Anchorage to North Carolina in my 1984, CJ-8 Alaskan Postal Jeep.

Right hand drive
Inline 258 6 cyl power baby!
Auto 3-speed
235 R15's
lots of rust

But I made it all the way back with only a leaky exhaust manifold and a loose transmission support.

Check out the trip logs and all the pictures at Rockcrawler

I can't link a picture so you'll just ahve to go check out Rockcrawler.

Why would anyone drive that far for an old postal Jeep?

-It's a Jeep thang you wouldn't understand. laugh

Sheeeeet... it wasn't that big a thing! laugh

It definitely is a Jeep thing, but you folks like vehicles enough that you might just understand. You all also appreciate rare vehicles (us SVT folks anyhow) and now I have something even more rare than my #522 of 2150 (for '00)! I have one (haven't figured the number in the series yet, should be able to) of 230 (less now, I've seen 5 that are beyond hope and heard of others that are totaled)! That's one of 230 TOTAL, not just for that model year.

I just went through the catalog for the company that sponsored me.... whoah boy could I spend some money! I've never experienced a vehicle with a real aftermarket following and I think I hit the motherload with this one!!!

My wife will be playing this card for a while... I can leave the house though (if I'm with her... laugh )

As for the TLC comment, as CJ's go, especially CJ-8's, this one is in really great shape. The coolest thing about it is that even with the cost of getting it back here, I could sell it today in the condition that it's in right now and still turn a big profit. I paid $650 to buy it (haven't added up the gas receipts) and I was offered more than that for JUST THE TOP in Ohio. A running CJ-8 is rare enough in its own right to merit at least 2500 and this one is in pretty dang good shape as they go. Apparently there just isn't a market for these in AK, so they go cheap.

I guess no one's crazy enough to try what I did in order to get them to the lower 48... laugh

Congrats.

Worst mistake I ever did was sell my old Govt. CJ8 I had . It was completely rebuilt over many months of hard work!

I still see them every once in a while but they are rare. Love the Hard top! I had a full soft top and a cab hard top.
