Since the Z3 is not in production anymore, the plant in SC is gearing up for the Z4. It's just really funny that Mr. Ed and I were driving 5 minutes from my new house, and what do we see in front of us? A Z4!! I wish I had my cam!. Looked like a mule, but it still looked soooo sweet! In October, we have a 2 day autocross at the BMW plant, I'll make sure and get pix of the Z4 while we're there.

OMG, the Z4 has got to be the ugliest thing BMW has ever put out.. I don't understand why they feel the need to keep ruining cars (first the 7 series, then the 5 series, and now the Z4?!). It looks ok from maybe one or two angles, but it looks like total ass from the rest of them. There are a TON of pics posted of the car over on bimmer.org.

I like the sculpted sides, but the rear looks like the S2000 and the front just needs some kind of (major) work. At least it doesn't have that extended coffin lid thing that the 7s and 5s do/will have.

Actually, when we first saw it, I thought it was an S2000, with a messed up spoiler. Seeing it in person changed my perspective. I just hope BMW doesn't screw up the 3 series like they did the 7.

I like the back end, overall I like it. Then again I am a huge fan of the CTS.

It's just ok. Nothing spectacular for sure. The visible Z on the side is well....ummmm GHEY. Remove the angular cut on the front flank and it would look a ton better.

I don't know...I just love it.
It is nice to see a new design that isn't completely derivitive. I love the way the shut-line above the front lamps leads to the bottom edga of the indented portion of the side.
I also love the way the car almost has 2 different organic shapes on the side that reflect different amounts of light and look like they are 2 colors.
The tail treatment could be a bit more special I think. Maybe a true KAMM type back edge would do the trick.
My main issue design wise is the large surface area that the hood represents. In some of the pics I have seen it looks a bit fat there.

Christ, since when did Zorro stage an invasion into the design and engineering offices of BMW?! The lines of the design on the side view are HORRIBLE!!! Front and back are great, but the sides... Slap the side panels of the Z8 on that puppy and have yet another classic. As it is, barf bags should be required when viewing the car from the flanks...
