1700 will get you a 2 bedroom, 1 bath apartment with a porch and about 1000 square feet in an immediate boston suburb. 1700 in downtown will get you a place to put your cardboard box. waltham is still very affordable. i have a friend whose fiance works at hanscom. very nice people over there. also, Lincoln is a beautiful town which has remained relatively undiscovered by the "trendy" set. so it is somewhat affordable. you could probably find a 1200 sq ft ranch house in Lincoln for about 1700/month if you were thinking of buying. Maynard is also nice and affordable. another place to look is Woburn. a little closer to the NAWTH SHOWA (north shore) area of massachusetts, which is the best area to be in. wicked.

Hmmm Woburn and Lincoln. I'm going to be there for 3 years so I may go ahead and buy a house. I'm a regular Bob Vila with the tools so fixing something up over 3 years and making a little scratch sounds interesting. I figured 1700 wasn't gonna cover my arse for down town. Got to have a garage. God how I love my garage. I will never live without one ever again.
This should probably be in the NE-CEG forums, but how often do you guys get together. My email is johnelfelt@yahoo.com. If you all have a list or something could you put me on it.
Thanks again gents

I could use a friend up there.

JE Your in for major culture shock my man!!!! It took me about 1 1/2 years to adjust and I only moved from upstate New York. The peoples' attitudes and culture are very different than the South which from my travels is very similar to where I grew up. But once I found my "niche" I have come to love the place and I very glad to be living here. My girfriend moved from Colorado with the same observations as I. It took her about 2 years to adjust. New Englanders are just a differnet breed as the old saying goes. But I have learned to love 'em even if they don't like the Yanks!!!!

You mean the Wolverine looking guy with a parking lot in his back yard, a pimp wagon sitting out on the street, flames on his mailbox, a dog that hates me, and an SVT with a bent control arm???? He has many crossings all over New England but especially near Andover.

I've only been to Boston once, but here is what I remember: Irish bars and Dunkin Donuts on EVERY corner. Can anybody from Boston back me up on that?
I'm actually going to Boston in August for a mini-vacation. A college buddy is getting married in Cape Cod. Should be a good time.
