in the most recent issue of sport compact car.......they were working on their project focus..........they did a quaife install and some tranny work.......they installed a shorter final drive that was borrowed form our boys across the pond.........it could be done could it not? same tranny? would the rod shifting and cable shifting make a difference as i have a 96? ahem............terry? anyone? any thoughts?

You'll note they put in the 4.06 final gear.

All V6 MTX-75's have that final drive already.

Matter of fact some have thought about going to the Zetec's taller final drive (3.82 as they listed) to help with traction both from a stop and out of turns.

Turning the tires over (lack of traction) is already a problem so more gear would be a bad thing...

What is involved in changing the final drive ratio? Is it replacing the differential or is there more to it?
There are four available ratios according to the service manual. If 4.06 is for V6 MTX and 3.82 is Zetec, what are the other two?
