I was already going to quit to go back to school. But they recently phased out most of 3rd shift in the press dept where I was working. So most of those people got moved to 2nd or 1st shift. Since I have no seniority, I was bumped from my job (girl from 3rd shift took over) and I was sent, of all places, BACK upstairs where I had fought so hard to get out of. Maybe, they told me, Maybe I'd be recalled back. Or I could try to bid on another job, very difficult with no seniority. I was lucky to get the job I did. But no one knows how long 3rd shift will be phased out. A bunch of people got transferred and have already quit. Since I have some money put back, I decided I want to take a break between now and the start of classes. I may head to NM for a week to visit my mom and friends. I have been applying for PT work to keep my bills paid. Will be hard but I needed to get out and go back to school. I could not see myself working there for any longer. Besides, that place is hell on earth. I will not miss it. My family is going to help me since I am going back to school, so I'll be ok!

I use to be like you PackRat, working at these dead end companies with high turnover rates.... School pretty much tripled my income from 24K dating back from 95! Now I am branching off into investments that triple my yearly salary including bonuses! Going back to school is definately a wise choice!

Congrats Pat! It seemed you were ALWAYS having problems at that place ... glad to see you finally found a way out ...
Very wise choice to go back to school as well. Personally, I don't know how many people nowadays manage w/o a college degree... it was feasable 50 years ago, but today...

Well, I have a degree, I just never used it. Architectural technology. But the software has changed so much since I got my degree 4 years ago. Besides, I'm not into drawing as much as I used to be. However, I got four of my classes to transfer to DMACC (Des Moines Area Community College) so I've already got something like 12 credits right off the bat. At any rate, I'm just glad I'm not back there. Things have been so haywire there that they may not even notice I'm gone.
I know it looks bad to just "walk" off a job like that but they've jerked me around so much that I didn't feel like I owed them a damn thing.

That sucks loosing your job, but as you said you never really liked it anyway. Good luck with school, maybe you'll make big bucks after you graduate and can get rid of that pesky vw
