Hello everyone,
Next year, my future father-in-law is giving me his 1985 4.2L Mustang (because I expressed my interest in a old project car). I know a little more than the layman on engines. I need information on this car. I know alot of you guys also own Mustangs. What are some good sites and other resources for information? NOTE: one of the first things I would to do is swap out engines in favor of a 5.0L. Thanks for your help.

Darin

www.corral.net
www.stangnet.com

these are the two big ones, w/ a few others scattered around.

To be completely honest, you will need a bunch of stuff to swap in a 5.0L V8 properly. Thankfully pretty much everything is readily available either new, or out of a junkyard, and is reasonably priced.

Ideally you would want to find a wrecked 5.0L fox body that you could cannibalize for parts, including engine and driveline parts, as well as any updated parts you may want (nearly anyhting from 79-93 mustangs will bolt right on to your car, and even some 94 to present mustang stuff)

It all comes down to how much you wanna spend and how much work you wanna do.

It's all about balance.

Best place to find what your looking for would be www.stangparts.com I bought my t-5 conversion from them about two years ago. They gave me everything that I needed down to the shifter boot. They specialize in wrecked mustangs. That would be the best place I would think along with the info at corral and stangnet.

I'd almost do what it takes to get the 4.2 looking and running well, sell it, and use the funds to find a similar vintage 5.0. I might be getting lazy in my old age, though. wink
