I have been having problems with my PC when playing Need for Speed Porsche Unleashed.
It has been locking up solid most of the time when playing the replays and now it locked up while racing!
Windows ME, yeh I know, I know, I've heard many bad things about it and don't need to hear more! 256 Ram, 40 gig HD, 32 meg GForce2, Sound Blaster Live.
I've made sure all the drivers are up to date and I followed the instructions by turning off all the background applications prior to playing the game.
Please help!
Thanks,
Stephen

My computer locked up when you opened the game. I couldn't open any of my players. I just had to start over.
If I were you I would uninstall and reload. Any saved games you have you can go into the actual files and move that saved game file somewhere else and after installation, move it back.
I don't know what else to tell you.
Great game though..

Great game though.. Thanks, I'll give that a try. I sure hope that I get this fixed because it does look like a great game but too much more of this and the experience will be spoiled. Stephen

I went all out.. got the force feedback wheel, and all, gas pedals, even... the M#@$#@ F@#$ING thing LOCKS while loading the racs (displaying the map, and background pic..)
ARRGH.. Re-installed.. removed, reinstalled.. repaired, even upgraded all the video and audio drivers. I went so far as to DOWNGRADE to drivers to see where the problem is.. NO AVAIL!
I hate it.. I love the game... lots of performance, and good solid fun...
Hope to fix it soon (WIN XP)

When I searched the EA website I found this,
The original drivers made for the Nvidia GeForce card are not compatible with Need For Speed: Porsche Unleashed. There are newer BETA drivers on the game CD that will allow NFS:PU to run properly. They are located in the Drivers/Nvidia folder. You should also check with NVIDIA's web site (HTTP:\\www.nvidia.com) for the latest information and drivers available for the GeForce card. With video drivers other than those located on the disc, it may be possible that the game won't play at all.
I have the GeForce2 and I wonder if this applies to that card too! GeForce & GeForce2 use the same drivers? Also I have installed the latest drivers from The GeForce site including DetonatorXP!
Also the game is fairly old and my PC is not! Wouldn't you say that the driver files on my PC are newer than the ones on the CD?

You can play around with AGP Aperture settings in the bios as well. I had a hard time with a Geforce in a BX board, I ended up setting the AGP Aperture to 0 MB to force it into pci mode, once I did that I could play Quake3 or any other 3d game without lockups.
But I'd try different values and see what happens, you shouldn't have to go much more than 64 MB.

Problem found!! I think! I was going to try some of the advice that was given but before that I said, one more try to see if it still freezes. Then it hit me, the SCREEN SAVER was activating after 5 minutes and was or may have been causing problems with the game! Also after doing some diagnostics, I found a sound (wav) driver for a voice fax/modem was not being used and it was suggested that I uninstall it. I just dissabled it insread! So, so far so good *knock on wood*! GREAT game, I hope it won't be long before I'm playing MP online! Stephen
