It is sad that the dude was using his daugther as an excuse for the lawsuit, and she isn't even an atheist!

Aha....8 years old? Isn't she too young to make a decision to be a christian anyway? If I remember back to my bible-thumping days, a young person was could only be saved if they truly understood the concept and took classes to the effect. Usually, they could only make the decision in their late preteens...not at 8 years old.

I would say the same thing if the father had dubbed her an atheist. At that age, she may not even have a clear picture of what being a christian or being an atheist means.

How very interesting...the father using the daughter as a mechanism for the lawsuit, then we find out that he doesn't even have joint custody of his daughter. But of course, the father knows better and decided to file the lawsuit so that the rest of us would be better off with his intervening on behalf of the public.

What I want to know is how come all this information didn't come out before?

I didn't mean for this thread to be another relgious brawl. It just made me mad that Michael Newdow used his daughter to further his own cause.

For what it is worth, I was saved when I was 9. You are right to the extent that one needs to understand what it means to accept Jesus Christ as Savior, but you don't have to take any classes and get a diploma just to be a "Christian". All you have to do is truely believe and ask Christ into your heart. And the age that can happen can range from 8 to 80.

Why is it that when people talk about God everybody immediately thinks of the Christian God.
Christianity doesn't own the term God.
Just about every religion has a God(s).
The Christian God has a name, YHWH, and it should be used when speaking of the Chirstian God.
The other major religions all refer to their God by name, why doesn't Christianity?
Many so called good Christians don't know the name of their God and couldn't spell it if you told them.

The name and spelling of the Christian God (Sleeper has it correct, but probably shouldn't have put it here) should be treated with respect. It is rarely used, because it is a sacred word to those who believe.

How old she is, what religion who is, who has custody, and what you think of someone else's beliefs, shouldn't cloud the real issue.

Yawheh is a colloquial hebrew term for father (no i'm not Jewish but my Mom is a presbyterian minister). It was used by Jesus occasionally when speaking of his father. If I said it it would be like me calling your father "Dad."

I think this info didn't come out before to maximize revenue. The guy used the daughter as a proxy, because he doesn't even have to recite the pledge and was probably feeling down and wanted some attention (not unlike some ricers out there, lol ).
