What are the pros and cons in removing the resonator. How does it sound? Will it still meet emissions? Any other things I should consider?

Neelnug, I removed my resonator about 2 weeks ago. When exhaust is cold, it can get real raspy at about 2500 rpm I think? and later on thought e rev range. as the car warms up, the rasp gets tamer. Still a little fart canny for my tase though. I Think, and I stress think I have picked up some MPG and a little power which I notice on the Highway. Not dyno proven, just what I THINK. Hopefully, somebody else will say something about this mod. You might want to give the search a shot, sometimes I can actualy find something worth reading there Later, Chris S.

Same here- removed mine last Monday and noticed the same. If you wan to spend a little more than the 20 bucks to have it removed- throw on a new muffler for a nice sound. I haven't done that yet but I hear it fixes the rasp prob. Course if you really have some $$ fork it out for a new exhaust system. Check out perfomancefords.com- I am buying one of the mufflers there. Your choice- quiet system or loud. As far emissions- not sure- I don't have to go through that where I live- you might ask your local muffler shop- or I am sure someone on the forum knows. The shop can be fined if they do anything that doesn't meet the standards. They do have ways of getting around this though.

Word of warning, it's even louder on an SVT than a regular V6.. Search the archives, and you'll see mixed reviews.. If you like it loud and droney, then you'll like it. Otherwise, leave it alone.

Good point- on your SVT you might want to wait until you can do new mufflrs too- cause it is going to be loud. My bud did it on his and we loved the results- pends on your taste.
(by the way- anyone know how I can get some more stars?)

just my 2 cents i removed mine at the muffler shops recomendation-( I liked the svt sound but wanted it louder) anyway- it was too raspy/honda sounding -- yes it is louder but the crackle was annoying- and there was a drone-(odd pitch in the car) at certian rpm's so had them put a glass-pack where the res. was- now it sounds a little louder but no drone- crackle. but amplifies the stock sound some what-- i am happy with this combination. there now I am 2 cents in the hole, time for me to go read someone elses 2 cents

No resonator = DROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONE
Especially right around cruising rpm's (2500-3500)
Also the exhaust will be a litle more "boomy" Probably not a problem on the stock exhaust piping though.

Replace it with a nice, perforated tube resonator. You`ll be much happier with the results.
