Since the Pledge of Allegiance and The Lord's Prayer are not allowed in most public schools anymore because the word "God" is mentioned.... a kid in Arizona wrote the attached NEW School prayer. Now I sit me down in school Where praying is against the rule For this great nation under God Finds mention of Him very odd. If Scripture now the class recites, It violates the Bill of Rights. And anytime my head I bow Becomes a Federal matter now. Our hair can be purple, orange or green, That's no offense; it's a freedom scene. The law is specific, the law is precise. Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice. For praying in a public hall Might offend someone with no faith at all. In silence alone we must meditate, God's name is prohibited by the state. We're allowed to cuss and dress like freaks, And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks. They've outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible. To quote the Good Book makes me liable. We can elect a pregnant Senior Queen, And the 'unwed daddy,' our Senior King. It's "inappropriate" to teach right from wrong, We're taught that such "judgments" do not belong. We can get our condoms and birth controls, Study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles. But the Ten Commandments are not allowed, No word of God must reach this crowd. It's scary here I must confess, When chaos reigns the school's a mess. So, Lord, this silent plea I make: Should I be shot; My soul please take! Amen

I remember when they suspended a kid for wearing the Star of David around his neck, and told him never to wear it again. Isn't that an infringment on the 1st Amendment, not supporting it, like the ACLU claims?

yeah, it is... the kid should sue and whomever told him that ought to be drug out and beaten about the knees and shoulders with a louisville slugger for being that stupid yet being expected to 'teach' children.

Well, it's decent writing, and I'm sure the kid's mother is proud - but lets get serious. It's a whiney little rant that delivers an opinion, and not the true fact. School kids can pray, bow their heads, and perform almost any religious practice. That is their freedom of speech - just like it is everyone elses' to decide if they will follow suit.
Point being, there is nothing wrong with praying and so forth if you decide to, however, it becomes a legality when it's forced upon you.
I hope that I don't have to go around in a few weeks and untape the printed copy of this from every middle-aged employee's monitor.
EDIT: Might I mention that I do agree with you both on the kid who was suspended for wearing the star.

[my opinion on]
Government should be separate from religion.
Schools, a government institution, should not lead in a religious prayer.
Government should not repress religious beliefs.
DISASSOCIATION SHOULD NOT LEAD TO REPRESSION. (Most people, including school officials, government official, etc. still don?t grasp this concept.)
Government should not tell a person when they can or can't pray. If the students want to pray in school let them.
Children are getting away with much more now, not because of the absence of prayer in school, but because parents and teachers cannot discipline children without getting sued, or thrown in jail.
[my opinion off]

What bothers me is the whole repession thing. Most government officials seem to think that if they have to separate religion and state they need to take some sort of communist atheist stance and force it upon the public and the occupants of public places... its bullhonkey
