The insurance on the Cobra will probably be higher than either a run of the mill Vette or the Z06 due to it having a S/C. Don't ask me why, but I was told by an Allstate agent that any type of forced induction makes a sizeable difference in insurance payments on vehicles (maintenance concerns and extra HP maybe?). As it is, insurance on a Vette isn't something to sneeze at... Give the Cobra it's dues. I know it took Ford a dark age and then some to get something that can run and beat a Vette in standard clothing, but it looks like they've got one hell of a car with the '03 Cobra. The looks aren't my cup of tea, but the guts the thing has is frightening. TQ starts damn low and is as flat as a mesa up to the redline from what I've heard. Conversely, look at TQ curves on the LS1 and LS6. Not quite as fat at the bottom-end and the peak comes in quite a bit higher in the band. Even Z06 folks are going to have to keep their LS6's in the "sweet spot" to stay ahead of this monster... Just wait till folks start playing with pulleys on the S/C and start running boost up on this thing... In short, with relatively few mods, I'm saying these guys can quickly have a 425-500HP rocket that can start running Vipers in straight-line performance. Then again, you can achieve that with N/A on a LS1 or LS6 without a totally obscene amount of money spent. More, you ask? $35K+ and some patience will get you a TT Lingenfelter Vette that will warp dimensions at 650HP. You pay to play, as always. Kudos to SVT. It's cars like this that will keep the Vette development team at GM on their toes, hopefully. Let the HP wars continue!

I think the fact that the Cobra is suddenly being compared to the 'Vette, even the Z06, is pretty amazing itself. It's also likely pissing off the GM crowd, and I suspect we are seeing a bit of that here.

I saw a black coupe '03 cobra on the streets of Columbus (downtown, had temp tags) and I almost hit another car in my precious SVT when it took off from the light. I will be looking in 2005 when my car is paid off and I'm considering my next purchase.
Seeing as this is my first year outta college (go Bucks!) I'm thinking I'll be making more money in 3 years. I like the fact that not only is a Ford less expensive initially then german, etc, it's a lot less expensive to repair if your not a mechanic. Take a Ford and a BMW in for service and see what the cost is for each.
That's not to say I don't want an M3 (I really do), I just can't look at simply the intial cost of the car, but the cost to maintain it (compared to a Ford)

right on sandman,i've never really liked vettes too much either..i do respect their performance,however..i think the 03 cobra is better looking than the vette too..even if it is a zo6 vette, give the cobra owner the difference in price, and he'll spank the vette, with change left over, and a nicer looking car to boot...kudos to svt for making another bad1$$ vehicle.. :p

It is sad that Ford had to resort to supercharging their only somewhat fast car. After getting its ass kicked time and time again by the far superior Camaro's and Firebird's, it was about the only thing they could do. Can you imagine what the camaro would be like given a supercharger? throw a couple bolt on's on the camaro and it will hang with the cobra. I like the Cobra, but it is a porker that is going to be less than impressive in the turns. ford always has and always will be behind GM as far as performance. the cobra is a great deal, but the Z06 has it in every aspect, not to mention the Z06 has SOOOO much more thought and genious put into it. And i promise you, when the C6 vette comes out, there will be no comparison. the new cobra still looks like a V6 to the average person, whereas a vette looks like a vette, and all vett's are sweet. It is your oppinion that the Rustang looks better than the Corvette, 95% of the population would disagree with you, but hey, it is your oppinion right?

Go play in traffic somewhere, please. What is sad is GM, who sold so few Crapmaros and Firechickens that they were no longer worth producing. Those cars were of such low quality, they never compared to the Mustang. Ford fell from grace when it switched to the mod motor, that's for sure. However, they have been consistantly increasing the performance over the years, and have now completely surpassed any level of performance ever seen by a Crapmaro or Firechicken. That you bash the 03 Cobra for using a blower is laughable. The Crapmaro and Firechicken have been far behind the technology curve for some time now, and it's about time GM axed them. It was starting to become sad, and it's good that GM pulled the plug before they got totally embarrased (read, 03 Cobra). The Cobra's performance is so good that it totally eclipses its former competition and soundly moves into Corvette territory. When has GM ever done that with a vehicle? Pretty outstanding, if you ask anyone with an ounce of sense (which you apparently don't have). The 03 Cobra will spank a 'Vette, and with a simple pulley swap on the blower (taken from the Lightning blower, easily less than a $100 mod), will easily hang with a Z06. Now go troll somewhere else, like a busy interstate.

right on..all it's ever taken was a couple of mods to make stangs faster than camaros and birds..a couple hundred bucks and any stang can spank a camaro/bird..and you don't get that awesome gm(cough, cough)build quality..the new cobra will run rings around a vette with only a few mods, and still cost far less...at least ford is still keeping the muscle car alive in the stang, and they still care about performance...the stang is and always will be the best bang for the buck true muscle car out there(has been since the late 60's and still lives on today)and i think the mustang is a damn fine looking car to boot..not some over priced status symbol for old men to try and look cool...half of the vettes on the road haven't seen the top side of 4000rpm,god forbid they hurt their precious status symbol car...the gm lovers are just pissed that a less expensive FORD is still kicking their a**,even more so now,for less money, and in a better looking car, that can actually hold passengers...how many other other muscle car brands have lasted as long as the mustang?a true american icon...
