Nobody can tell you what system to buy, YOU have to pick the one with the games YOU want to play since YOU will be living with it! Everyone can say, yeah go buy an XBOX, and you might have wanted a PS2 but since everyone said get an XBOX now you've got a paperweight you don't even play...It's completely up to you. So far PS2 has a better games library....DUH...it's been out a full year before XBOX hit. Downside is, it's a year older than XBOX. First gen XBOX games are being compared to second and third gen PS2 games...the differences aren't tha apparent. Wait until we're seeing second and third gen XBOX games. Eventually the PS2 will no longer be able to keep up. I personally will buy PS2 and XBOX, just cause I have to be able to play everything. You've gotta decide though.

PS2 = Final Fantasy, Gran Turismo, every develloper on the bandwagon XBOX = Halo I also will bring the GameCube into this because although it currently has a shortage of games that is supposed to change. They have Square develloping for them again, Mario is almost done, as is Metroid, Zelda, and the sequel to perfect dark. If I had $500 to spend right now for a system, although I love Nintendo's games, I would choose the PS2 without hesitation. Next year if given the same option (and assuming Nintendo hasn't delayed all thier games for another year) I would probably pick up the Cube and a pile of games. Graphically speaking there is not enough of a difference between the three systems to use that as a descision maker. One may be able to push a higher amount of polygons (XBOX) another can run 8 different layers of texture mapping for more realistic looking surfaces (Gamecube) But look at Final Fantasy 10 and tell me what games look more pleasing to the eye. It's all in what the programmers do with what's given to them. BTW if you do decide to get a PS2 try Jak & Dexter, it's great If you get an XBOX, get a new controller, and Halo. If you get a GC, wait about a year and you'll be swimming in awesome games (again assuming Nintendo doesn't secide to delay everything again)

Actually being poor, I just bought a bunch of DC games for $5 each at a local Video Rental place. Even though the graphics aren't jaw dropping I am having a ball with them. And Soul Callibur is still one of, if not the best fighting game ever made. Maybe by the time PS3 is out I will have money again

A couple weeks ago I traded a DC, PS1, and about 15 games for $92 towards my PS2. Worth it! Now I'm sitting here broke and having a blast with GTA3 and WRC!!! Gotta say, though...WRC is movin' kinda quick...I'm halfway through the game in 2 days.
