I personally find some of these kind of off topic posts interesting and thought provoking. There are people that post some very insightful view's on these topic. I'm not saying I agree or disagree with what they have to say I just think it's interesting to see how other peoples minds work on different topic's. Kind of a chance to take a walk in someone elses shoes so to speak. One of the things I think is great about this site! Keep 'em coming EdwardC and crew!

Hmmm. OFF-TOPIC. Maybe it's for people who have something else to talk about other than contours.

Don't forget that athieism can be considered a religion of sorts too, a religion that believes in no higher being. All thoughts that mankind creates are organized in one way or another.

I personally don't mind what gets posted in the off topic forum, as thats what it's designed for! I also don't mind hearing these conversations, to agree with RT, they do get my mind working a little. I have no problem with anyones religion or beliefs as long as they don't push it on me...AKA those guys who hand out those "Who is god" flyers on street corners and stuff...I see none of that here, cool w/me

the problem with having refrences to god in the pledge of allegiance is that it ties patriotism with religion. This is especially true for younger children. My patriotism was much stronger when i was a kid, and I believed in every word of the pledge of allegiance, including the god refrences. But what about a kid who wants to be very patriotic and really mean every line of the pledge, but when it comes to the religious refrences, the pledge alienates him from his classmates because he is muslim. Why should a belief in god be central to this patriotic ritual?

Personally, I'm tired of seeing so many great american institutions be destroyed for all this PC crap.

This being the off-topic forum! Ant, I think you are way off base on this one. I'm not a religious person per say, but I don't think there is a lot of Bible thumping. More a discussion of current events. Also, what would piss you off more your girl getting raped or your child reciting the Pledge not really even realizing they mention God. All they know is that they say it each morning to profess their support of their country. These are two completely different issues.

This country was founded on freedom of religion with out persecution. God or no-God. And seperation of state and church. The pledge was intended to instill patriotizm. Which is pretty much dead unless you server the public or a plain hits a building. If you don't like it don't say it, but don't have it outlawed. Hell, I may teach my child to say it on there own in class. Freedom of Speech right!!

It seems to me that this is a topic that is bound to ruffle many feathers. Religion and politics are both pretty taboo subjects at many "topical" chat sites. However, when you have an "off topic" area, it is meant to be used for discussions non-related to the general topic at hand, specifically, Contours. The "off-topic" area is created to keep discussions that deal with bachelor parties, porn links, what are you doing next week, computer problems, etc...off the main topical boards. It keeps conversations like this in one area, while still allowing for diversity. Generally, most here are adults. It seems to me that if there is something in the title of a post that you may find offensive, such as the insinuation that religion is being discussed, you have the amazing option of NOT READING THE POST. For example, you have cable TV because you love watching movies. However, one of your cable stations is a religious channel. This is not your cup of tea, so you do not watch it.

I think the hinderance of any sort of freedom of expression is just another victory for those who believe in censorship and the like. You should be grateful that there IS a place, like this, for all of you with similar interests to gather together to have excellent conversation!

I live by this creedo:

"I may not like what you say, but I will never deny you the right to say it."

Peace to all.

I believe that is what I said, to keep them OFF the other topical areas. However, I beg to differ. I have seen porn links here from time to time. Not PICTURES, but links...or at very least, offers to send porn to others, via e-mail.

To each his/her own! :p

Have a great 4th!

It's a big picture: if it's legal and doesn't violate the rules of contour.org, it's allowed. If Antonio doesn't like it, he has the right to express that, just as some of us have the right to disagree with him. However, it won't be removed unless Lance or a mod comes along and sees a reason why it should be.

BTW, Andy W, this is the second time I've found myself agreeing with you of late. Not sure if that's a good thing :p
