Ok, so I'been thinking again, (a dangerous thing for me), trying to come up with a way to get a cold shot of air into the engine without relocating the battery and with the minial amount of heat soak. i'm no engineer or anything so this may be riddled with problems but i was thinking what if you used one of those arospeed front mount cold air intake boxes set up in a such a way that it was more of a top mount, combined with a small scoop, similar in style to the ones on the imprezza 2.5GT's and the outbacks, or perhaps even a vent of some kind. some vents and scoops for mondeos (actually pretty generic applications wise) can be found here: http://www.ccmotorsport.co.uk/bonnet_vents.htm
anyone have any ideas on this as far as if it could work or not? i figure air coming from above the hood should be moderately cool, and if we can grab it and give it a short trip to the engine so the chance for heat soak is minimal, it should work. i'm just brainstorming so negative comments are as welcome as positive ones. let me know what you think.

If I can pick up water with a scoop mounted in my front bumper then I wouldn't worry about it too much. IMO the '88 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe scoops would also look good, a single one mounted on the drivers side just over the battery with a FG tunnel to the top of the KKM would work.

Of course, I'm going to be one of those wierdo's with Cossie hood scoops sooner or later...

Aerospeed intake coolers are very large...
Were will you find the room for it?
Unless your talking about a small one...
Why not get a CAI and either wrap it with Thermo-Tec or you can ceramic coat it like I did mine with Jet Hot .

I do have a CAI, the one from the now defunct SCA, but it gets pretty warm, esp in summer and though you mentioned two good option for heat soak issues if I keep the CAI I'd like to keep the looks as well. Thanks for the commenst though, I don't mean to sound like I'm jumping down your throat.
Also, I'm not sure how big these Arospeed things are. I emailed them asking for rough dimensions with no response yet, all I have to go by is pics of them from their website where I guessed they were about 24Lx6H. Like I said, this is just a thought I had, I have no plans at the moment to try it or anything, just lookin for input, thanks again to all.

You can actually hear my engine "inhale" now when you press the throttle down. It seems to flow exceptionally well, but I'd assume it has a lot to do with the polished intake innards and super-low restriction set up. It is fed cold air from the outside and works very well.

(Here comes another shameless engine bay photo or two...)

DAYUM ^^^^^ NICE engine bay.. I like the set up for the intake.. good idea...
Where did you run the feeder hose from (to get the air?) Where is it mounted, I mean.. that is my strongest concern, before I do anything like this...)

It's a 2.5" hose routed from the lower grill around the front of the wheel well liner and through the hole for the lower airbox. I'm planning to upgrade it to 3.75" (or whatever the KKM opening size is) dryer hose for better fit and more flow.

For the moment it works very well - noticeable difference under power.

Here's a pic of the collector:
