Electrolux is laying off 53 employees as of next Friday. It's the 53 newest hires that are getting the boot out the door. Being relatively new, I stand a chance at getting laid off if they continue. No word on any more layoffs. But it still sucks having to worry.

While getting laid off might suck (it sure did for me), you might want to take advantage of the benefits of unemployment, and take them up on their free education perks, if you're looking to go further in something.
The rule in Jersey is that even if you get a job 1 day after you start classes, that's fine, the state will still pay for school.
In any event, good luck, and hope you don't get laid off.

sorry to hear packrat hope they dont get u...i missed getting laid off a yr after starting at rockwell (their cutoff date being the week AFTER i was hired thank goodness) but they got me the second time around...that was the time when they wisely laid off salaried employees which, included me by then, instead of the rank and file who did the backbone work....it sucked losing my job but they didn't lay off the people who basically kept us in business
they had a strike a few yrs later and it was funny to hear how the upper management had to run semiconductor equip during the stoppage
damn i ramble...anyway good luck to u

Shouldn't you be working? [/b]That's funny, even California offers assistance like this, in fact theirs is even better since you can use it for any type of school (computer school to get your certifications, etc), while NJ just gives you a list of state schools that participate in the program. And I'm on my break, what's your excuse for being up so late?

It blows. They have been laying off people at my work. I'm one of the only ones left.

We started getting calls yesterday from WorldCom employees...they say they are more confused than anything about what happened. That would suck to think the company you work for is so stable, only to have a scandal uncovered and you get canned in the same week .

Wait till the same thing happens at Xerox next week. At my last job, our #1 client (which accounted for 90% of our revenue stream) was Adelphia Communications, the 5th largest cable company. Now, if you've followed the news, they're in Chapter 11, with crooked books, $3 billion unaccounted for, and the stock delisted last week. That blow decimated our company, and eventually we went under. Ironically, I now work at the #3 cable company in the country (Comcast), and we'll be the #1 cable provider by October, if all goes as plans. But since that means nothing these days, it doesn't give me feeling of security. I'd much rather leave the corporate BS behind and go back to working at a startup company.

I think one of the reasons for the layoffs is the fact that we lost a huge contract with Lowes (I believe I posted about it a while back) due to managerial "fagotry".
