Sway! For the love of God, opt to stay awake during the procedure and witness it firsthand!!! It's fun wink

j/k ... it appears I'm still the only one I know that chose the hard way.

EDIT I take that back ... read the above post

I will be undergoing a root canal later this month... I can't wait. Has anyone ever had one fo these? The dentist says it won't hurt but then everyone else says it's the worst pain ever. I need an honest opinion, I'm scared. frown laugh

suhweeeeet! lol. but yeah, im gonna get knocked out, for the first time.. i dont think i could handle it awake wink [/b]
I was knocked out too. The oral surgeon gave me some extra kick-ass nawwws. He put a bandage around my arm and told me, "This will burn a little." I woke up 9 hours later, stone sober. One Lortab later I was good for quite awhile. Slept pretty good too. In fact, I still have a few left. eek

Jared, just go get it fixed. The pain you are dealing with is much worse then what you will have. Personally, I have had 9 crowns, 10 root-canals, and 4-teeth (wisdom) pulled. I still have to have roughly three more root crowns, one more tooth pulled, a bridge (upper right side), one implant and two cavaties. I have to visit the oral surgeon at least one more time.

See, you could be looking at that, it would be much worse. I have movie star teeth though. laugh

Yea,

I had four teeth pulled at once prior to getting braces as a teenager. Worst pain I have ever had. When the novacaine wore off, I was in profound agony. It was like the pain you would feel if someone stuck searing needles in your gums. Man-o-man, I feel the utmost sympathy for those who are going through teeth extractions now or will undergoe the procedure in the future. Ya feel fine for a little while but, Bam!, the pain hits so intensely that you want to tear your eye out and eat them as a distraction.

I've had 4 root canals, including my latest one last week.. The first 2 didn't hurt at all (I think the nerve was dead already, since the tooth was cracked already), but the last 2 were murder. I was cool both times until the novicane wore off, and then it was brutal. My doc prescribes Percecets (sp?) for the pain, but I don't do well with them, so I just take like 3 Ibuprofens and I'm good.

Root canals are hella-expensive too, and insurance only covers a part of it (if you have insurance, which I currently don't). Good luck.

well oh sh-t. all this talk about teeth.. i forgot i had a sit down appointment to discuss it with my dentist, today.

oh well.. wasn't gonna get them to pull em..

my mother had her teeth pulled without gettin knocked out, and she had major problems (somethin about, somethin or another wrapped around the bone and things got screwed up)
and she's afraid that might be my deal too.

i don't know. gotta do whatcha gotta do..

Jared i'll come to Utah to hold ur hand, hehe.

I had both my bottom wisdom teeth surgically removed 2 years ago. The Oral Surgeon suggested I take a Valium before the procedure, but I refused. I also chose to stay awake the whole time. By far the worst pain I ever felt in all 29 years of my life. Glad I got it's all over with, cause there's no way I'd do it over again.

I had to pull out 8 teeth at once. It wasn't even half bad. Trust me.. go with the Nitrous oxide. You'll be having the most fun in the world. Also, for me, i was lucky. I didn't swell up, or have any pain at all. They gave me pain killers, but i used it not for pain, but to make sure it doesn't go to waste. laugh . Well, all those teeth are gone, and now i have room in my mouth. I just had to make room for my braces. But anyways, it was pretty solid. Have fun

I had one when I was in fourth grade (on that stupid front tooth). It's not really painful until the Novacain (sp?) wears off. For me it was the strangest feeling, because they dug in from behind and filled in. When they were digging out the nerve, it felt like somebody was shoveling out my tooth with a sewing needle. Very odd feeling indeed ...

Maybe I imagined the feeling (hey I was 9) but definite push/pull action was going on. If you're having it done to a molar, then it shouldn't be as bad. My friend had one done on her back tooth recently; it only hurt when the filling fell out within the day eek which shouldn't happen to you.
