I did something like that with windows 95 laugh the slowest I managed to get it installed on was a 386sx 16 with 4 megs of ram laugh now I may have to try that with XP now.

I had that same problem under Win2k - thought I was the only one smile It's fixed, but I'm unsure what fixed it.

yes ... :p

Win98 is my fav so far. Maybe it's just because the computer is so darn stable. Whodathunk a first-generation eMachines would be so efficient and quick? I'm still getting used to XP - hasn't crashed yet (except for a shutdown quirk which turned out to be a "feature" from the touchpad), which I find rejoiceful.

UPDATE!!!
I went to install XP and has file copying issues. Turns out my hard drive is NFG,a POS, DOA, DRT, FUBARed, SNAFUed, it no worky. That is why my 98 install was so screwy! Okay VenomSVT, you can stop laughing now! So I'm off to Micro Center to start over. Caviar 40 gig 7200 rpm for $114.99. Basically, the saga continues!

So, yes, Win 2000 is a great, stable operating system, with the small problem that it doesn't work....

uhhhh why are you using compuserve?

The bottom line is that none of the current operating systems is really that good. Steve Wozniak, long ago, when asked if PC's had gotten to the point where they were as easy to use as any other household appliance, is credited with the quote "well...you don't see too many Maytag users' groups"
uhhhh why are you using compuserve? Sounds like a Compuserver
issue.

I had no problems with XP....yes I'll say it
I LOVE WINDOWS XP...lol

I'm using CompuServe because I've used it since I bought my IBM PS2-30 in 1987 and have found it to be consistently reliable, not knocking me offline as my friends' ISP's do. The CompuServe issue, as I understand it, is that CompuServe expects the username and password to be in a single "packet" (forgive me if I'm using the wrong terminology), which works fine for Win98SE on my, my son's, and my wife's machines, but Win2000 for "security" reasons, will not allow passwords to be stored and will not send a username and password in a single packet. So there is a workaround script (scrip?) file on the CompuServe website that supposedly fixes the Win2000 problem, but doesn't work on the Dell. Soooo, according to our tech guy at work, it's a Microsoft-caused problem (and given the security holes in their software, it seems rather ironic), that CompuServe fixed, but the fix doesn't work on the laptop because of a Dell firmware issue.

When I want to wash clothes, I turn the Maytag to "on"....

Yeah I think so because I hate ME and I am glad we do not have to use it at work and I will not use it at home (yes I have tried it but it was slower5 than 98SE on the same machine and nothing I saw was any better with it than 98se)[/b]
WIN98 crashed all the time for me. As soon as I upgraded to ME alot of problems went away. It hardly ever crashes now.
